Choosing toys for babies:

  • Soft, washable stuffed toys with embroidered eyes
  • Mobiles to hang above the crib
  • Pictures or "baby-proof" photo album
  • Music tapes or CDs
  • Stacking toys
  • Rattles
  • Squeeze toys
  • Crib or Floor Gym



Safety Precautions when choosing Baby Toys

Avoid:
  • Stuffed animals with glass or button eyes
  • Any other toys with small parts (less than 1 3/4 inches)that might come loose
  • Any toy painted with leadpaint or any other toxic paint. Also toys with paint that flakes off
  • Cords on toys or mobiles, more than 12" long
  • Toys with sharp edges
  • Balloons - when deflated they can choke a baby
  • Marbles, coins, balls and any other small toys that might be a choking hazard
  • Make sure that rattles, teethers etc. are large enough that they can't get lodged in a baby's mouth.
