Toys for Toddlers
(1 - 3 Years of Age)

Toys for toddlers need to be tough and well made. Small children are not gentle with their toys. They pull and twist them, they put them in their mouths, they throw them. It is so important to choose their toys carefully.

Teddy Bear Toys for 1-2 year olds:
  • Push and pull toys
  • Blocks
  • Books with heavy cardboard pages
  • Take-apart toys with large pieces
  • Mirrors (non-glass)
  • Nesting or stacking toys
  • Floating bath toys
  • Musical toys
  • Soft stuffed toys with embroidered eyes



Toys for 2-3 year olds

Xylophone

  • Riding toys and low rocking horses
  • Cars
  • Wagons, doll carriages
  • Simple musical instruments
  • Soft balls
  • play dough
  • Fat crayons
  • Peg boards with large pieces


Safety Considerations

Avoid:
  • Small toys that can be swallowed
  • Toys with sharp edges
  • Toys with small removable parts
  • Stuffed dolls and animals with glass or button eyes.
  • Electrical Toys
  • Lead soldiers
  • Tricycles or riding toys with seats more than 12" high
